Sports Premium
Every state-funded school in the country with primary-aged pupils have received additional funding for sport and physical education (PE).
While the funding is ring-fenced, and must be spent on sport and PE, schools have been told that they are best placed to decide how best to use of the funding to meet their pupils' needs. The areas that will benefit from improvement might typically include:
-
Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers when teaching PE;
-
Supporting and engaging the least active children through new or additional sport clubs;
-
Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport (including providing cover to release teachers);
-
Running sports competitions;
-
Providing places for pupils in after school and holiday sport clubs.
